Cal Clutterbuck Update – 1-24-2013 – ClutterPuck on Clutterbuck

Cal Clutterbuck Bringing the Clutter like only he can!!!

The National Hockey League is back and that means we get to see Cal Clutterbuck again! We get to see him play the physical game that has become his signature and be a pest to every opponent the Minnesota Wild matchup against. That will only consist of Western Conference opponents during the regular season thanks to a lockout that wiped out the 2012 part of the 2012-13 season and results in a shortened 48-game schedule. Get used to seeing opponents on their asses after watching their passes! Here comes the CALvary!!! Bring the Clutter, Cal!!!

Here’s what’s been going on in the life of Cal!:
Mr. Mom heads back to arena – FortErieTimes.ca – Bernie Puchalski – 1/6/2013

  • Cal Clutterbuck was happy having time to spend with his newborn baby because he got to see her grow up in a way he normally wouldn’t be able to but how he’s ““…pretty excited. I’m disappointed that it took so long but, at this point, we have to try and focus on what’s ahead of us. It will be 10 years of not having to deal with this any more.”

Has Cal Clutterbuck become expendable? – TheHockeyWriters.com – 1/14/2013

  • BLASPHEMY! Why would anyone think like that? Expendable? Come on, now!
    • Seriously, though, I understand there is a chance the Wild could use Clutterbuck to trade for a defenseman being a restricted free agent at the end of the season but expendable is not the right word!
    • Quote from the article – “Clutterbuck is one of those guys you just love to watch; he’s consistently among the league leaders in hits, is a guy that can quickly get under the skin of his opponents and can also score goals, especially shorthanded. The man who, according to Don Cherry, has “the prototypical hockey player name” is a guy that would fetch considerable trade value for Minnesota because 29 other teams are looking for a guy like him.”
      • Does that sound like expendable? How ’bout valuable? Indispensable? Clutterrific? Yeah…CLUTTERRIFIC!
      • If 29 other teams are looking for a guy like him, then why would you trade him?
        • There’s not a lot of players out there who do what Cal does as well as he does it. IT IS BRING THE CLUTTER!!!
    • Plus…what would I call this blog then? ParisePuck? SuterPuck? (Hey…that’s not too bad! Wait! NO!) WildPuck? Oooooh, how ’bout PuckOfMikko? Alright, we’re getting off course here!

Wild’s Cal Clutterbuck gets some ink – TwinCities.com – Pioneer Press – Charley Walters – 1/15/2013

  • This is in the article too: Word is the Philadelphia Flyers see Gophers 6-5, 205-pound defenseman Mark Alt, whose rights they traded for this week, as a physical prospect in the mold of Flyers captain Chris Pronger.
    • Uhh…..WOW!

Mitchell, Wild’s other early-summer signee, no longer an afterthought – StarTribune.com – Michael Russo – 1/18/2013

  • Forward Cal Clutterbuck was honored by a local gay-rights advocacy group for his work to improve the school environment for gay students, and especially gay athletes. He received the “outstanding ally award” from Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), during its conference at Hamline University.

Russo’s NHL Insider: Clutterbuck glad union players ‘stuck together’ – StarTribune.com – 1/19/2013

  • “It was really important. Every single aspect of the collective bargaining agreement affects a player a different way. It was important that players that were making a lot of money were standing behind the guys that may be in a bind in a year or two.”

Some other articles involving the Minnesota Wild:
Nobody should view Koivu as Wild’s third wheel – StarTribune.com – Chip Scoggins – 1/18/2013

  • Smart hockey people say the beauty of Koivu’s game is in the details. The way he works and controls a game and is wedded to defense. They applaud his consistent approach and ability to make those around him better. That’s not always sexy, but his game is so fundamentally understated that it’s easy to take his contributions for granted.
  • “I have a whole new appreciation for how good he really is,” Parise said. “I was kind of taken aback a little bit. No disrespect because I always knew he was a good player. But you don’t know until you’re with him.”

Homeland has Wild rookie Granlund well-covered – StarTribune.com – Michael Russo – 1/21/2013

  • Samuel Savolainen, a hockey writer for the magazine Urheilulehti, has moved to St. Paul to cover Granlund and the Wild full-time. Saturday’s game was televised live on Nelonen Sport Pro at 4 a.m. Finland time, and Finns who got up early enough saw him score his first goal in the second period, giving the Wild a 2-1 lead.
    • Is there any wonder why fans are so excited to see Mikael Granlund in a Wild uniform? It will be fun to see him progress through his first NHL season.
    • The Xcel Energy could be known as GranLand if the “mania” continues – #WelcomeToGranland
